We were watching the wonderful documentary on the History of New York by Ric Burns - a brilliant series, truly.  This particular segment concerned the brutal destruction - and catastrophic demolition - of the old Penn Station - an absolutely beautiful stately, classic, majestic Beaux Arts building in the heart of New York City.  It's a destruction so hideous and gross, it's hard to watch.  There are even shots of beautiful statues that have been hacked apart and left lying about - to be discarded...

After this dreadful hideous destruction of such a beautiful building there arose a very strong movement among Americans to preserve and protect our beautiful old buildings, not to disparage and destroy them. 

We see parallels to what has happened - is happening - to Judaism. 

Judaism is a disparaged religion - disparaged by Jews! - by the brightest, most vibrant, creative, educated Jews!  It's a wholesale DEVALUATION of something that is actually incredibly beautiful - and deep and wise and rich and truly precious. 

And the resulting destruction is tragic - UNLESS we're able to somehow teach - show - demonstrate - to these very important Jews - our sharp, young, educated people - how truly wonderful and precious and meaningful their religion is.

And that is what the KEHILLAH project is about - that is our aim - to show Jews how wonderful and precious their religion is - that rather than disparage it and devalue it, they should EMBRACE it, because of all that it offers them! 

People complain about the lack of values in modern society - the lack of connection - the lack of support for families and community.  All of these important elements of life are supported and enhanced - beautifully - by a committment to the Jewish way of life. 

The reason for people to embrace Judaism is because of all that it will ADD to their lives - if only they knew that!  And that's what we hope to convey to them - through the KEHILLAH project...
